Since over 20 years Berlins reputation about its legendary techno scene and night clubs gained international attention. People around the world heard about notorious techno parties and myths and rumours about these vibrant places and the colorful crazy world they have created are circulating around the world. But there is more to the techno scene than just having a great party.
Most of Berlins clubs share a similar ideological background and club culture organizers have strong political stances, participating in local activism and urban protests. Members of Berlins club culture industry have built a strong community whose mentality makes Berlin such an interesting and vibrant place to live and go out at night. The Club culture tour will show you where techno began. How empty urban spaces turned into subcultural free spaces and were used for underground music raves. How this subculture grew to be a notorious urban culture that attracted millions of people to visit and move to Berlin. You will get an insight into how and why those spaces are currently at danger due to current urban processes.
We will draw a line to the current urban situation and see how club culture and urban protests are interlaced together, how urban concepts developed out of the techno community that nowadays still shape our city.
You will see different locations and hear which unique role they play in Berlins club community. This tour aims to be a mix of cultural, political and historical insights to understand club culture, how it influences political activism and how it appears to be an important matter in urban change.
