After the fall of the Berlin Wall everywhere in Berlin alternative social art projects were flourishing and shaping the cities subcultural life till today. The trendy neighborhood Prenzlauer Berg is a perfect example for this phenomenon. We will be exploring the former East part of Prenzlauer Berg and a part of the former West in the district of Mitte. We we pass by historical sights and cultural places that are important to understand Berlins cultural life and subculture.
We will explore Berlins diversity, special boutique shops, bars, cafes, alternative living projects, backyards and all the secret places that make Berlins neighborhoods so unique. The tour will also give you an insight view on urban development and gentrification, the fight of Berlins citizens against displacements, about alternative living spaces and subculture. You will hear of art, freedom and lifestyle, food culture, street art and Berlins nightlife secrets.
You will get lots of insider information and hear stories about Berlins cultural life to understand how this part of the city changed from communism to punk and techno culture in abandoned buildings. How it transformed then into a hipster neighborhood with fancy restaurants and cafes. It is the perfect sneak peek to get an overview of what makes this city so special to its people and so different to other cities in the world.
