Berlins colorful facets are shaped by Street Art, art galleries, political activism, techno, punk and counter culture. On this tour we will be walking around the former East and West side of the alternative districts Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg to discover Berlins cultural life. You will hear about the history, the time of Berlins division and how the city has been changing since the Berlin Wall fell in 1989. Different systems of capitalism and communism have shaped Berlins cultural life today. You will explore what is still left.
You will get lots of insider information which give you a different perspective and inside view on the city. You will hear about Berlins sub-culture, Club culture, art scene, punk scene and the famous underground clubs. But also about gentrification happening in Berlin, current urban development and the fight against displacements.
The tour is focused on art and lifestyle, history, politics and urban change. It has several stops to show the variety of those two districts, like typical unique Berlin boutique shops, bars, cafes, historical corners, street art, galleries and art spaces. You will see furthermore alternative living concepts, special architecture, night clubs and hear stories of the neighborhood to get an impression of the cities secrets. You will be discovering cozy areas we call “Kiez” where life is buzzing, which are no touristic commercial areas, but areas where people live. By the end of this tour you might feel like a local yourself.
