So what’s actually going on in the West? Most of the Berlin newcomers only have eyes for hip neighborhoods like Friedrichshain, Prenzlauer Berg, Kreuzberg, Mitte and Neukölln, so that some of the other beautiful districts are almost being forgotten. Schöneberg is one of those jewels that actually offers a lot, from a vibrant bar culture with the most amazing high quality cocktail bars, to beautiful vintage antique shops and a growing urban street art culture. Even David Bowie chose to live in Schöneberg in the 1980s.
We will discover some Street Art Galleries and graffitis in the streets, modern architecture and the cozy neighborhoods with its unique boutique shops and concept stores. Schöneberg is also known as Berlins „gay district“ with important places for the LGBTQ community, lots of gay bars, cafes, stores, a gay museum and most important a memorial for the homosexuals that were killed during the Third Reich.
You will hear stories and anecdotes of the neighborhood, facts about history, the art and culture scene, about the queer community in Berlin, the subculture, architecture and urban street art culture. You’ll get an overview of Schönebergs cultural and arty life as much as its historical side and its communities.
